About the Executive

The Executive Branch of the Georgetown University Student Association is charged with administering and enforcing the acts passed by the Senate. It is also the primary point of contact between the student body and the university. It is led by the President and Vice President, who are elected jointly for one-year terms on the last Thursday of February. The President also has the power of veto over acts of the Senate, though vetoes may be overridden by a Senate super majority.

The staff of the Executive Branch are divided into two categories. The Executive Staff is charged with assisting the President and Vice President in the discharge of their duties, and positions therein are created and appointed by the President. The Executive Cabinet has discretionary authority over specific portfolios – such as Athletic Affairs, Student Safety, and Neighborhood Relations. Cabinet departments are established by acts of Senate, and nominees for Cabinet positions must be confirmed by the Senate.
