Summer Fellows

The Georgetown University Student Association (GUSA) Summer Fellows Program provides Georgetown undergraduates qualifying for need-based financial aid with free summer housing so that they may pursue an unpaid internship or other unpaid work (including recognized undergraduate research) in the Washington, D.C. metro area. As a university in the Catholic and Jesuit tradition, Georgetown encourages its students not simply to study in the classroom, but also to engage with, and draw learning from, the outside world. The GUSA Summer Fellows program facilitates this type of interaction by providing members of the Georgetown student body with the opportunity to take an internship that they otherwise might be unable to pursue. By taking applications from all qualified students, regardless of school, major, or career interest, this program looks to fill an opportunity gap left by other similar initiatives on campus.

This past year’s program proved especially monumental as we incorporated a “workshop” component to the schedule; throughout the summer, we are hosting 6 workshops that will enhance the fellows’ experience, regardless of internship type. These workshops are led by esteemed professors of Georgetown University, members of the Jesuit community, and various firms, including Booz Allen Hamilton. Additionally, this summer included a $500 stipend for each of the fellows to help defer food, travel, and other costs associated with living in the D.C. area.
