Accomplishments

Fellow Hoyas,

We are taking this opportunity to wish you a great summer and to give you on update on what GUSA has achieved and is achieving since we were elected to office last March.

We have achieved the following:

  • Completed the selection process for this year’s GUSA Summer Fellows Program, a program that provides free housing to students on financial aid with unpaid internships in the D.C. area. In its second year, we have expanded the program from 5 to 10 students. Over the summer, the Fellows will receive a $500 stipend for food, travel, and other expenses as well as participate in specialized workshops lead by faculty and professionals.
  • Co-sponsored The Corp Philanthropy Grant.
  • Co-hosted the G.A.M.B.L.E. networking event at the Wagner Alumni house during which an Alumni Mentor Program that aims to provide Georgetown Undergraduates with mentors in the field of business was unveiled.
  • Administered the voting process and hosted the award ceremony for the Dorothy Brown Award.  Professor Ambrosio, the 2008-2009 Dorothy Brown Award recipient has thanked the student body and requested that we share the following message:

Dear Undergraduates,

I write to express gratitude to all of you who voted in the selection process for the Dorothy Brown Faculty Award this year. On behalf of all those faculty colleagues whom you nominated and for whom you voted, let me say how much your favorable estimation and appreciation of our efforts, as expressed through the selection process, means to each of us and to the faculty as a whole.

As this year’s recipient, I am both honored and humbled by being numbered among the many outstanding teachers from among whom you had to choose. Thank you for the privilege of playing a role in your education, a responsibility which gives meaning and purpose to all that we do at Georgetown.

My warm good wishes to all of you for a successful conclusion to this semester, a safe and enjoyable summer and, to this year’s graduates, hearty congratulations!

Sincerely,

Frank Ambrosio
Philosophy Department

Additionally, we are actively working on the following issues:

  • Ensuring that the Student Activities Fee is used in the students’ best interest.
  • Reducing the number of “EVENT” emails that students receive on any given day.
  • Expanding the scope of university space allocated to students for studying, socializing, and hosting club events through working with the Student Space Working Group.
  • Addressing 61Ds through opening channels of discussion not only with the administration but also with local residents and the relevant neighborhood commissions and councils.

The following issues will be a priority throughout the upcoming year:

  • Increasing student safety both on and off-campus.
  • Career services reform.

As always, a crucial aspect to the success of our efforts is student contribution. Should you be interested in getting involved in any of these initiatives or have recommendations that you feel need to be addresses please do not hesitate to contact us.

Till next fall!
