EXECUTIVE STAFF
Calen Angert (President) is a junior in the MSB. He has served both as a GUSA senator and as Secretary of Student Life on the ‘08-’09 GUSA executive. While serving in these roles, Calen dealt with diversity issues, intellectual life, SAC reform, and loosening the alcohol policy. He helped organize and implement many of the GUSA sponsored events this past year, including Opera in the Outfield and the Britto presentation. Calen also sat on the Student Safety Advisory Board and helped address safety related issues across campus. He plans to focus more on advocacy than programming in the coming year.
Jason Kluger (Vice President) hails from Warren, New Jersey. He is a junior in the MSB and plans to major in International Business and Management and minor in African American Studies. This past year he served on GUSA’s executive board as the Director of Advertising. He worked on GUSA sponsored events including May the Best Man Win and the Energia lecture. In addition, he organized the Starbucks giveaways as well as the Free Ben & Jerry’s Day. Outside of GUSA he is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, the oldest and largest professional business fraternity.
Tim Swenson (Chief of Staff) is a senior in the college majoring in government and minoring in history. He has previously served the student body as a Senator and member of the Financial and Appropriations committee. In addition to his service in GUSA, Tim is a member of the Georgetown Army ROTC program, captain of the Georgetown Mock Trial team, opinion columnist for The Hoya and will be a Captain for the New Student Orientation program in 2009
Michael Meaney (Deputy Chief of Staff for Student Life) is from Tucson, Arizona. He is a sophomore studying International Politics in the SFS . Mike’s involvement with GUSA began in the Senate, where he served during his freshman year. He now serves as Dept. Chief of staff. Mike is also involved in developing GU programming for students from the Cristo Rey School Network. He is also organizing a border immersion alternative spring break program for this coming spring. Mike is a John Carroll Fellow as well.
Pablo Morenes (Deputy Chief of Staff for University Affairs) was born in London, UK, lived in Madrid and graduated from the American School of Madrid in 2008. He will graduate in the College 2012, Major in History and Economics. Pablo serves as student representative to the Board of Directors and co-director to the GUSA Summer Fellows Project. His main interests are reading, fútbol, skiing, and Spanish national politics.”
Ashley Mancuso (Treasurer) is a junior in the MSB majoring in Finance and International Business, with a Minor in Spanish. She is originally from Upper Saddle River, NJ. In addition to Treasurer, Ashley is also the Chair of Credit for the Georgetown University Alumni & Student FCU. She spent the previous summer working there, but hopes to make it to NYC this summer. Ashley is looking forward to making her role more integrated with the other GUSA members, and is looking forward to an exciting and productive semester with GUSA.
Molly Breen (Communications), class of 2011, is a finance and international business double major in the McDonough School of Business, with a minor in Art History. In addition to her work with GUSA, Molly is the Founder and President of Georgetown’s Party-For-A-Cause, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that aims to empower and encourage college students to participate in and create events that raise money for a variety of charitable causes. Molly was born and raised just north of Chicago, in Kenilworth, IL. She attended boarding school at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA.
EXECUTIVE CABINET
Adam Alfi (Green Initiatives), MSB ’11, was raised in the City of Angels. He first became involved in environmental activism because a pretty girl he liked was into it, but wound up falling in love with the environment instead. He has spent the past two years heading up the Corp’s Green Team, which has quintupled in size since he took over. Coincidentally, his favorite hobby and his greatest talent are one and the same: receiving massages. He dreams of one-day having his own adventure-survival show like Bear Grylls, but is also fond of the simpler pleasures in life, like Judo-chopping white belts at Yates and waking up to breakfast in bed from his roommates. Most of all, Adam is excited to help GUSA go Green.
Max Cascante (Campus Safety), hailing from LA, is a junior in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, majoring in International Economics, with a focus in Finance and Commerce. Mr. Cascante is involved with the OAS and is currently working with former U.S. Ambassador to the OAS, Hector Morales, who is teaching at Georgetown. He is also heavily involved on campus as the Undergraduate Representative on the Main Campus Planning Committee, the GUSA Executive Secretary for Campus Safety, and as Junior Class Representative of the SFS Academic Council.
Natasha Franck (Media and Culture) is a senior in the College and an Art History major. She is interested in advertising, drawing and film and has always been an advocate for the arts at Georgetown. At Georgetown, Natasha has been involved with the Art Aficionados, a campus art club, and Party For a Cause, a charitable party-organizing committee. She is very impressed with all GUSA’s accomplishment and hopes to bring more artistic and cultural events to Georgetown in the upcoming year.
Charlie Peet Joyce (Grassroots Chair) is a sophomore in the college from Bedford, NY. He plans to focus on a more unified and professional atmosphere around Georgetown by working with underclassmen and administrators. Charlie got involved in GUSA Grassroots during his freshman year and is currently serving as Chairman of the Executive Outreach Board. Both are initiatives started by recent and current presidents to help expand on undergraduate participation in student government working towards a more efficient Georgetown.
Mike Lapidus (Technology) a double major in Marketing and Management in the MSB (‘11) and hails from sunny South Florida. He serves on the UIS Advisory board and seeks to improve technology both for GUSA and for the University as a whole.
Benjamin McAfee (Diversity Affairs) is a student in the School of Foreign Service majoring in regional studies Latin America. Before coming to Georgetown, Benjamin McAfee participated in a pre-orientation program called Young Leaders In Education About Diversity that focused on fostering dialogue and action on complex issues including (but not limited to): sexuality, religion, class, race, gender, age, and ability. It is through this experience that he has found his passion and has been involved in organizations such as SCUnity, GU Pride, L.E.A.D. and Hoya Saxa Weekend Committee. Benjamin is excited that he will be working with the GUSA administration as Secretary of Diversity Affairs so that he can serve as a liaison between administration and the student body.
Kelvin Moses (Athletic Affairs), CAS ‘10, is an English and Sociology double major with a minor in Economics from Nashua, New Hampshire. In his senior year on the hilltop he continues to serve as a three year starter and senior contributor on the University’s Varsity Football Team. He is also the founder and president of Georgetown Aspiring Minority Business Leaders & Entrepreneurs (GAMBLE), the first undergraduate student lead minority business group at the university aimed to foster a conversation about minority development and empowerment in a professional environment. He also serves as the co-director for the GUSA Summer Fellows Program alongside Pablo Morenes
Daphne Panayotatos (Academic Affairs), class of 2011, is from Rockland County, New York. She is an International Politics major in the School of Foreign Service, concentrating on Foreign Policy Processes. Daphne first became involved with GUSA as a member of GUSA Grassroots in her sophomore year. In addition to serving on the Executive Board, Daphne dances with Black Movements Dance Theater (BMDT) and works on events as a member of the SFS Academic Council Special Events Committee.
Isabella Proia (Marketing and Advertising), College 2012, got involved in GUSA when she entered her freshman year here at Georgetown. Today, she is majoring in History with a minor in Government. Besides GUSA, Isabella is the producer of Mask and Bauble Dramatic Society’s Donn B. Murphy One Acts Festival, and a Co-President of Habitat for Humanity. She was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and thinks that DC, while awesome, has miserable weather.
James Wright (Institutional Development) is currently a junior in the College, majoring in Mathematics and Theology. He is originally from Briarcliff, NY. In addition to GUSA, James is a member of Party For a Cause, a group that organizes events to raise money for charities. He loves playing basketball, football, and watching romantic comedies. In the coming academic year, James looks forward to working together with students and administrators to help build the Georgetown community.
